Third Assignment: First Group Critic: Functionality before Aesthetic.

This group critic was not well received, but the judges were delightful professionals that loved contradicting each other, so it was amusing to hear and see. A valuable learning experience no doubt.

As this will be our last project of the semester it is composed of all the worked we've accomplished during the semester which is why, rather than creating a design from scratch we are to borrow the defining aspects of our previous work and incorporate them in a cohesive manner in this much bigger site and program.

My fundamental ideas of design have varied vastly in the design process from focusing on roof and light openings to modular approaches to figuring out how to incorporate ramps in my buildings. At the end, my project it's most defined by quality a set of ramps and stairs that connect the space while being filtered through a patterned "wall" of sorts.

The idea to create a wellness center, a place where people could go and experience their senses in a relaxing and helpful environment has been present since our second assignment. Now that the opportunity has come to develop such a project, new unforeseen challenges have presented themselves in the form of a gigantic program and the feeling of dread and excitement of seeing a completely blank space that arguably has endless possibilities.

As one of the judges reiterated "functionality before aesthetic" should be the driving force behind our approaches to this program, as such my partner and I (we're working on groups for our final project as well) decided to divide the program primarily on its private/public ratio, as we're dealing with a proposal that has plenty for both sides, it seemed appropriate.

(side note: as I'm writing this in the future, much after this group critic it's interesting to see, the initial program approximation sort of stayed within its original placement.)
