(in)forma: My Thoughts on the Essay. Part 2. "Experiencias Medidas"

In this post I'll be writing about a text from the university's architecture magazine (in)forma, issue number 5. This is the second on a two part series.

This essay titled "Experiencias Medidas" or "Measured Experiences" written by ex-alumni Mariana Ortiz, writes about the relationship between architecture and cinematography, without giving away too much too fast it delves into how these two mediums create spaces and how these spaces affect the audience in its presence.

In her writing Ortiz compares cinema and architecture; in a quote from early on in her essay it states that we derive experiences from images through a simulation of space in cinema while in architecture the space itself creates the simulation when explored invoking then the experience. Perhaps designing a space does require the same type of considerations as when a film is shot. Light, dimension, reception, language, genre. As a way to represent these Ortiz developed her own graphic narratives, which i don't yet fully understand.

One part that i found particularly interesting was the proposal that, as in cinematography, storyboards could be used to design a space.
